What we collect and why
We collect what we need to reply to you and to see how the site is used. Nothing is sold or passed on.
What you give us
When you fill in the contact form we keep your name, email, phone number if you add one, and your message. When you run the free website check we keep the website address you entered, and your email if you ask for the fix list. We use these to reply to you, and for nothing else.
What the site records
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used: which pages are viewed, what is clicked, how far down a page people get, and the rough location and device they arrive on. Clarity can replay a visit so we can see where a page is confusing. Anything typed into a form is hidden in those replays. Neither tool tells us who you are.
Google may also use a visit to show our ads to people who have been here. You can turn that off in your Google ad settings.
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which keeps it fast and protects it from attacks. To do that it sees the address each visit comes from, and it counts visits without using cookies.
Where it is kept
Form entries are stored in our own content system and sent to us by email. The email is delivered by SendGrid, part of Twilio, so your entry passes through their servers on the way to us. Analytics data is held by Google and Microsoft. All of these companies keep data on servers outside New Zealand.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Email hello@makings.co.nz and we will sort it.
